CR Fitness Holdings, which operates 98 Crunch Fitness clubs, has signed an agreement to develop 25 Yoga Joint studios across Florida and Dallas. It is the operator’s first franchise investment outside Crunch Fitness.
The group already serves more than one million members across its Crunch portfolio. Yoga Joint says its studios open for all of 2024 averaged about $1.84 million in unit volume, with mature locations exceeding $2.4 million.
Why this matters for operators
This is a useful example of what diversification can look like after an operator has already built the systems to run at scale.
CR Fitness is not entering a completely unrelated business. It is staying inside fitness, where many of the operating muscles already exist: site selection, memberships, local marketing, staff development, recurring revenue, and multi-location management.
That matters because adding another brand creates complexity quickly. The safer version of diversification is often a concept where the operator can reuse capabilities they already understand.
The interesting question is less which second brand to buy, and more which parts of the current operating system can travel with you.
What to watch
Watch how much of CR Fitness’s existing infrastructure gets reused across Yoga Joint.
If central functions such as recruiting, real estate, finance, marketing and regional management can support both brands, the second concept may add revenue without requiring a second operating company to be built from scratch.
If every brand needs its own separate systems and leadership stack, the economics of diversification change quickly.
For operators considering a second concept, that is probably the most important test: how much of your current machine can support the next brand?
